BREAKING: Racist, Anti-International Student Posters Found in the Wentworth Building
By Pulp Editors
Within a week of Honi Soit revealing the existence of a neo-Nazi network at the University of Sydney, racist, anti-international student posters have been found in the Wentworth building.
The posters, which read “Has your uni become a visa factory?” and “Let your voice be heard with the Pro-Aussie Movement!” were found this morning on the Wentworth noticeboard.
In what appears to be a targeted attack on the Usyd international student community, the small posters have been placed directly over pre-existing posters featuring photographs of East-Asian women: one advertising a club night at Home nightclub, and another for the University of Sydney Modelling Society. The International student lounge is also located within the Wentworth building.
In a statement issued to Pulp, USU President Connor Wherret condemned the posters:
“This is deeply disturbing. Anybody who sees these posters are encouraged to contact USU facilities at facilities@usu.edu.au or alert a staff member. We will remove it right away and investigate who put them up. The USU has zero tolerance for racism or xenophobia in our buildings, on our university - or anywhere.”
This is not the first time racist or discriminatory posters have been found at the University of Sydney: similar posters and graffiti were found and reported on by student and national media in March of this year, as well as in 2018 and 2017.
More to come.
