This week is PRIDE week!! It’s time to celebrate your queerness with one of the panels, poetry slams or parties this week! This is my guide to keeping your social calendar booked!
My top pick of the week: Queer Panel Tuesday 1pm OR Orlando on Friday at 5pm!
2020 Panel on Queer Activism
Tuesday 3rd March, 1pm @ Hermann’s Bar
An experienced panel of activists from ‘Community Action for Rainbow Rights’, the ‘Queer Action collective’ and ‘Pride in Protest’ will be speaking on the challenges facing queer communities. Figure out how you can get involved in Queer activism and make a difference in the community!

Cake decorating with Arkady (cake boy)
Wednesday 4th March, 12pm - 2pm @ Eastern Avenue
In addition to the Wednesday Pride markets, the USU has given a special platform to USyd treasure, Arkady (cake boy). He’s known for his deliciously creative desserts, to be found at Fisher coffee cart every Thursday (for free?!); but this Wednesday we’ll be blessed with an Arkady-led workshop. Design, create and eat your own pride-themed desserts.

Cross-collective bake sale
Thursday 5th March, 9am - 4pm @ Eastern Avenue
The SRC collectives, ranging from enviro to wom*n’s, will be uniting this Thursday on Eastern Avenue to deliver you some delicious treats! Vegan and gluten free will be available, and yes, they do take card. So stock up on your favourite dessert because all proceeds will go into First Nations families affected by deaths in custody. Rumour has it they’ll also be selling some of their merch, so it’s time to update your tote bag collection!

Glitter Gala
Thursday 5th March, 7pm @ The Refectory
The party to end all parties, it’s time to sparkle at the 2020 Glitter Gala. Seven years young, this ball is one never to miss. Prepare yourself for a night of dancing, drinking and digesting. It will be a climactic celebration of our fabulously-diverse LGBTQIA+ community, rivalled only by Mardi Gras (she is QUAKING) Get your tickets quick, we’ll see you on the dance floor. Orlando
March 4th - 7th, 7pm @ Cellar Theatre
Do not let the week end without seeing a showing of SUDs’ opening show: Orlando. This Virginia Woolfe adaptation follows its protagonist on a journey through five centuries, a gender transition, several great loves, and “one very average poem about a very large tree.” A topical celebration of queerdom and identity, Orlando will be something that sticks with you - it’s the SUDs guarantee.

Queer Revue auditions
March 2nd - 6th, 5pm @ The Quad
Queer Revue is a sketch comedy show written and performed by queers and allies. It’s a medium to express your silly side through dancing and singing! This all-inclusive space is where a community of fellow queer people can come together and play. Whether you're a seasoned dramaturg or budding thespian, audition with a little dance, a little sing-song and a little improv. No prep required!

Queer beers
March 3rd, 5pm @ Hermann’s Bar
This event is a “beloved tradition”! Our favourite Queer action groups on campus will be meeting to have a have a drink, play some games, eat some food and listen to some sweet sweet tunes. Whether you’re looking to express some gay pride or simply an ally looking for some fun, come socialise with the uni’s coolest queer crowd.

Pride poetry slam
March 4th, 1pm @ Hermann’s Bar
A competition of poetic wit will be going down at Hermann’s on Wednesday, where some of USyd’s finest rhetoricians will bring personal stories to life with a slam. They’ll be judged on their performance and the top 3 win a cash prize. Not too late to enter! Turn that pride to power with words that shake the crowd. Not to be missed!
