Farewell Pulp

Mia Castagnone

We live in a crazy world to say the least, but at university we have the chance escape. We can grow, learn, make mistakes and keep on trying again and again. We can have a wonderful and stressful time, and if we’re lucky, we’ll make some lifelong connections along the way. What I love the most about university is that we have the opportunity to find what fills us with passion.

When I started at USyd in 2018, Pulp helped me find my passion in media and writing. Pulp is a platform that gives young writers a chance to learn and put their skills to practice. It is a platform that is open to all voices and all kinds of stories. Pulp and all types of student publications are an asset to the university experience. They are what give students a voice and the opportunity to be published, which in media is invaluable.

This semester has been unforgettable. We have launched so many new series and widened our content including podcasts and video series, Pulp Pops and Pulp Eats. As always, we have produced a multitude of articles from campus to pop culture to my personal favourites, food and lifestyle. I hope we have inspired audiences to write, produce, edit or at the very least we have kept you entertained and informed. We live in a digital world and Pulp is dedicated to bringing multimedia together with creativity and innovation to tell great stories.

All good things must come to an end, and I’m very excited to announce that I will be moving to Hong Kong to work as a reporter at South China Morning Post! I am thrilled for the journey ahead and will always be thankful for Pulp and my experiences at USyd for preparing me for this next stage. I know that when I leave, Pulp will continue to grow and be a beacon of life in the USyd community. As editor, I hope I have inspired my peers to write, produce and tell their stories, whether it’s to make fun, foodie videos, host a podcast or write an article ranking hot chocolate. I would like to thank the other editors, Emily, Fabian and Kristin, for their passion and dedication.

I look forward to seeing the Pulp community grow and I endeavour to continue to write and bring unique and interesting stories to new audiences. Storytelling is boundless and if I’ve learnt anything it’s that great storytelling has the power to bring people together. Let’s hope in all the journeys we take, we strive to live dynamic lives, take risks and be fearless. Let’s continue to look to the horizon during uncertain times, keep a positive, open mind and support one another’s ideas, because it is our diversity that makes our community great.
