Reflections on photography

Eleanor Taylor writes.

I started taking photos in year 12 when my teacher taught me about different angles and how to edit. She taught me how to turn photos into something I really love.

Image: a sailboat sits on the water at dusk. There are deep green trees in the background and the image is framed by gum leaves. The sky is a peach colour.

Photography means being able to express yourself. l love walking around and listening to music and noticing everything around me. It’s a chance to be mindful and stay in the moment, to listen, observe sun and water. When l pick up my camera it means a chance to see how the light bounces off the pictures.

Image: Boats sit on the water at sunset. The sky is reflected in the still water with shades of soft orange and dusty blue.

There’s something about seeing the sun set through my camera lens that clears my head.

It’s a fresh start. When I have a bad day, I go outside and clear my head. When it is sunset time, I can snap some amazing photos: the sun going down, the colours that linger.

Bridge: A bridge over water at dusk. The clouds are stretched out in the sky, coloured a grey-yellow. The water is undulant with small ripples and waves.

Before, l kept my photos to myself.

Now, l share some of them online, on Instagram, because I want to put myself out there and to send though my photos which I love. It connects me to other people. I think the pictures speak louder than words.
