We Ranked the Best Easter Chocolates
Nicholas Comino and Smrithi Ravindra from USYD’s chocolate society give us the review we never knew we needed: an expert’s view of the best easter chocolate!
The day after Christmas was ideal for a car-drive to the beach with towels, sunbathers, and eskies full of sugary drinks. The weather was perfect, but our moods were not. The desolate knowingness that Christmas was gone weighed on our dark tarpit-filled souls like the boulder on Atlas’s shoulder. We had nothing to look forward to: not the days leading up to the New Year, – they were bleak and unmoored - not the New Year itself, – we obviously couldn’t go to any of the regular parties - and definitely not Australia day – we were tired of watching cricket on TV.
Suddenly, we found a crack of light out of the blue – one promising holiday that could fill up our spirits and leave us whole again: Easter! But even then, Easter was months and months away, how were we to pass the slow, almost unmoving time? What journey could we take (preferably something Easter-related) to prevent ourselves from staring at the calendar all day in the hopes that time could warp us into April. And that, dear reader, was the beginning of our legendary quest to find the Best (and worst) Easter chocolates for the Year 2021.

Rating: 8/10

Aldi Brand Easter Eggs
Price: $9.00
If dairy options aren’t your style, Aldi has once again come through for you. These Aldi-brand chocolate eggs aren’t just heavenly but are also vegan! The cheap Aldi prices and variety of sizes and flavours make these eggs an accessible option to feast on this Easter.
Rating: 8/10
Our Bottom Three Easter Chocolates
Humpty Dumpty Easter Egg
Price: $5.00
The premise of the Humpty Dumpty egg alone is enough to have it score this low. The chocolate egg that looks like a clown (more than Humpty Dumpty) is filled with the kind of smarties that will always taste off-brand despite being Cadbury. Just buy a packet of M&Ms and spare yourself.
Rating: 3/10
Wizz Fizz Cream Egg
Price: $1.40
We have no idea who thought this was a good idea, but it is safe to argue that these are the least appetising four words ever put together. The chocolate covered crème egg is allegedly sour tasting and, for some unknown reason, filled with popping candies. Evidence of blatant consumerism that seeks to cash in on any holiday possible, this is something you should certainly avoid this Easter.
Rating: 2/10
Turkish Delight Chocolate Easter Egg
Price: $15.00
Easter and the least popular chocolate in the Cadbury Favourites Box team up to make one of the worst Chocolate Eggs out there. The texture of the inside is gelatinous and just feels plain wrong. Over and above that, the outrageously-priced giant chocolate egg is filled with more mini eggs on the inside making it the worst turkish delight related thing, second to Edmund in the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe selling out his family for some.
