Pulp Interviews: Princi
By Haydn Hickson
Musician turned event organiser, Princi, is putting on her ideal club night because she can.
Introducing, Club Princi. The event that’s not like other events, dedicated to showcasing intersectionality within the Sydney club-night scene through its acts, instalments and aura.
“Club Princi is an event that spotlights queer artists and artists of colour pushing their forms to new places” Princi said to Pulp Media.
“It's important because it celebrates these artists and their audiences for who they completely are. It also reflects an alternative perspective to ‘Australian’ music.”
Alternative perspective indeed. Juxtaposing the heteronormative, pale-skinned, cis-male line-ups that often flood the Aussie festival circuit, Princi’s handpicked line-up showcases some of the most exciting queer and PoC artists today.
On the line-up, we have Sydney acts: Rebecca Hatch (live), Stelly G x Sharman (live), Srisha (live), Ayebatonye, DJ Punky Fish and Jhassic, all hosted by the one-and-only, Princi.
When asked about the selection of these artists, Princi said “They're all in their own lane, and that's what I look for as a fan and performer.”
I took the liberty to ask Princi what her ideal lineup would be if she took this project globally. She said “Yaeji, Arca, M.I.A., Tierra Whack, Peggy Gou, Christine and the Queens, Rosalia. Just imagine. I love that we're manifesting this right here right now, it feels like it's already.”
If you’ve got nothing to do tonight or you’re looking for something to do after Arts Revue, please head on down to Club Princi and support your local PoC and Queer Artists! It’s guaranteed to be one hell of a time.
Club Princi goes live tonight at the Red Rattler Theatre in Marrickville, Sydney. You can get your tickets here or at the door.
