TONIGHT: Support the Redfern Legal Centre and Catch Some Quality Comedy While You're At It
By Antoinette Radford
Redfern legal centre is an integral part of Sydney’s inner-city community, providing free representation to many vulnerable people within the area.
Today, they are hosting a comedy event, raising funds to support the centre to ensure it can stay open and accessible to those who most require legal support.
The centre provides free generalist advice to students, people with disabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. It assists many experiencing issues with tenancy, domestic violence, employment law and discrimination.
Headlining the event is Tom Ballard, host of ABC’s show ‘The Tonightly with Tom Ballard’. Others involved in the evening include Jordan Raskopoulos, lead singer of the musical comedy group Axis of Awesome, Michael Hing a comedian and journalist at The Feed, Shiralee Hood, Aboriginal comedian and winner of the Deadly Funny competition, and Nina Oyama, comedian and producer at the Angus Project.
CEO of Redfern Legal Centre, Joanna Shulman says the event is important to ensure RLC can stay open and providing assistance to members of the community.
“Demand for our services continues to grow year on year. This fundraiser is a fun way the community can come together to ensure that free legal help remains available to those who need it most.”
The event will be held this evening, Wednesday May 8 from 7.30pm at the Giant Dwarf Theatre, Redfern.
