How Does Katy Perry's Baby Name Rank in the Celeb-Kid Hall of Fame?
Nicolette Petra
This week, singer-songwriter Katy Perry and actor Orlando Bloom announced the birth of their first child together, Daisy Dove Bloom. Fans had suspected the name Daisy was on the cards after Perry released her fifth album, Smile, on which the song Daisies featured.
The couple, who are ambassadors with UNICEF, celebrated DDB’s arrival by setting up a donation page in the hopes of ensuring that more children and parents will get the healthcare they need, especially with COVID-19 which has put “many more newborn lives at risk because of a greater lack of access to water, soap, vaccines and medicines that prevent diseases.”
On a more lighthearted note, this new addition to the ranks of celeb kids calls for a look back at some of the most unique and eyebrow-raising names celebs have chosen for their kids over the years. Best believe the Kardashian dynasty pops up more than once.
Literally Any Flower Combo Ever
Sure, you meet your Roses and Lilies throughout your life but encountering a Dusty Rose? Surely not. Well, not unless you’re Maroon 5’s Adam Levine and his Victoria’s Secret Angel wife, Behati Prinsloo, who gave their daughter this very combo. Perry and Bloom’s baby, Daisy Dove joins a flowerbed of celebrity daughters, including Hilary Duff’s Banks Violet and Johnny Depp’s Lilly-Rose.
Apples and Oranges
Sticking with the nature theme but hoping from the garden to the orchard, we have Apple, daughter of actor Gwenyth Paltrow and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. The then-couple received flack at the time of announcing the left-of-centre name but in the 15 years since the birth of their baby girl, there have been over 400 girls named Apple in the US. Talk about trend-setting.
And fine, there hasn’t been a baby named Orange yet - but mark my words.
Location, Location, Location
In need of some direction when it comes to picking out future baby names? How about North West, like the daughter of Kim Kardashian-West and Kanye West? You’re more of a city kind of person? Go for Chicago, yet another Kardashian-West child, or York, like Tyra Banks’ son. What if you’re not about the destination? Guess you’ll have to go for Journey like Megan Fox’s son, Journey River (yes, you read that right). There’s something for everyone when you keep location in mind.
Anything with an X
“Add an X,” they said. “It’ll be cool,” they said. Sure, if you’re a sci-fi or fantasy character. Or, as it happens, a celebrity baby, with Alanis Morrissette choosing the name Onyx for her daughter, and Raddix for the daughter of rock-loving power-couple, actor Cameron Diaz and Good Charlotte bandmember, Benji Madden.
But the one that takes the cake when it comes to metaphorical Error 404 of names? X Æ A-12.
Pronounced X-Ash-A-12 for the more cultured among us, X Æ A-12 was born to singer Grimes and billionaire engineer, Tony Star- uh, Elon Musk. I mean it’s definitely a one of a kind name, but it sorta makes you wonder whatever happened to the ol’ reliable Tom, Dick and Harry?
